NEW DANISH // DESIGN NATION
If I say Denmark, what's the first thing that comes to you mind? For my part it is the following: Arne Jacobsen, Georg Jensen, Hans J. Wegener, Verner Panton, Børge Mogens, Poul Kjærholm, Finn Juhl, Kaare Klint.. Phew! I could go on and on and on.. Denmark has and always will be one of the biggest design nations there is. And it was exactly this that inspired two Danish brothers to pursue their dream of creating a brand of their own. Meet the Brorsen brothers, Christian and Jens, the creators of DESIGN NATION.
Growing up in a home where music, art, architecture and design was highly valued, they were early on 'indoctrinated' in the world of Danish Design. Nevertheless, they both became business men and jazz musicians (impressive credentials indeed!) rather than designers. But the passion for design always remained and in 2012 they ventured into the entrepreneur jungle and founded their very own design brand.
Inspired by the distinguished pure lines and fine craftsmanship of mid-century Danish and Scandinavian design traditions, DESIGN NATION works closely with a number of well-known designers such as Søren Ulrik Petersen and Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm, designing clean-lined products adapted to the modern way of life, all based upon the common goal of creating high-quality products for everyday use:
'The daily joy of being surrounded by accomplished design means much more than we think. This is why DESIGN NATION seeks to create products that enhance the pleasure of everyday living. Our products are characterised by being: A joy to use, Appealing to the eye, functional and simple, suitable for modern life, durable and of high quality.
Up until now DESIGN NATION have mainly been focusing on creating functional and aesthetic products for the modern kitchen, where simplicity and soft lines meets subtle colour tones. One of their products that I am absolutely mad about is their 'TRAY' by Christina Liljenberg Halstrøm, which the Scandi's have been raving about since it first launched. Made out of a single sheet of curved metal which is curiously combined with wooden handles and held together by rubber bands, it pairs up as a serving tray as well as a laptop table when you flip it over. It is both beautiful to look at and functional to use, so I'd say they all rather nailed it with this one!
There are more on the agenda of these two capable brothers though, as they are just getting started. Collaborations with both existing and new designers are in the making at the moment and new products are lining up just waiting to be launched during 2015. So I think it is safe to say that DESIGN NATION will indeed live up to the expectations of the greatest design nation of them all..!
